Some words start with W, others with WH. How can you remember which are which? Perhaps the best way is to learn some of the commonest words by heart.
WH-words are often QUESTION WORDS:
For example:
WHO, WHERE, WHY, WHEN, WHICH, WHAT, WHOSE
Other common wh-words are:
WHITE, WHALE, WHILE
W-words are more common and include:
WAS/WERE, WANT, WENT, WON’T (= will not)
