What qualities are important to have for a person who wants to work in seafood production?

A person who works in seafood production must be able to work methodically, efficiently and rationally. In this field it is important to have good professional knowledge so you can assess the quality of the goods and how the raw materials can be best used. It is especially important to be able to work hygienically.

You must have the technical knowledge and ability necessary to operate the machinery.

In this trade, it is important to have an understanding of the global community and of different markets and customer demands. You should have knowledge of economic conditions in the field. Because Norway exports a large amount of fish, fish products and seafood, it is a great advantage if you know something about other cultures. In this trade you should have good interpersonal skills and a knowledge of languages.

 

Key work tasks

•    receiving, checking and treating raw materials
•    participating in the entire production process
•    logistics, packaging and tracking processes
•    production control and inventory control
•    use and basic maintenance of machines, tools and other equipment
 
 

What are the possible workplaces?

As a worker in seafood production you can get a job in fishing industry businesses, or in firms involved in seafood production or seafood export.

 

What kind of education do you need to work in seafood production?

Vg1: Restaurant and Food Processing

Vg2: Food and beverages

Vg3: Seafood

You can be an apprentice in a business in your third and fourth years. When you finish your training you receive a trade certificate.
