Interview with a farmer

Einar, you’re a farmer, and you operate Garnes farm. Tell us a little about your farm.

My farm is around 57 acres. We produce milk and some meat. The farm is a visiting farm, so we have a variety of animals: cows, horses, sheep, pigs, chickens and rabbits.

What is a visiting farm?

A visiting farm is a farm that children and young people can visit so they can get to know the animals. We have agreements with schools and nurseries. They come to visit the farm several times a year. We sometimes have up to 100 children and adults visiting in one day. Every Saturday we have visits from young girls who ride the horses and care for the animals. They participate in activities on the farm and have lots of good experiences.

How do you find the time to have so many visitors to the farm?

We have one employee who only works with the visitors, and five adults who get their work training here. They help with the farm work and take care of the animals.

What are your most important work tasks?

I administrate, assign and participate in the work.

How do you like your work?

I enjoy it very much, but it keeps me very busy. We have a lot of appointments, so it’s a business that never stands still.

What kind of education do you have?

I have a degree in agronomy from the farm institute.
