What will you learn while you are taking the Vg1 programme?
You can choose between a lot of educational paths when you take the Design, Arts and Crafts programme. For example, you can become a hairdresser, goldsmith, floral designer, occupational therapist, tailor or interior designer.
You learn about form and colour, materials, tools and techniques. You also get training in assessing what is good design, and in the process of developing an idea until it becomes a product.
Some of the trades you can learn are trades with long traditions. The people who practise these trades often use traditional materials and tools. Other trades are modern, and new materials and tools are used.
What qualities should you have?
A person who chooses to study design, arts and crafts should have creative abilities and talents, and should like working with his or her hands. It’s important to be accurate and have a good colour sense. You must be able to work both independently and together with others.
In many of the fields you make products that customers will buy. The products you make must be of high quality, both in the choice of materials and in the way the work is carried out. You also have to think about whom you are producing things for and the price you will be asking.
When you work in the field of design, arts and crafts you must keep up with fashions and current trends. At the same time you must use your own creative sense and develop and work with your own ideas.
You can find a list of the trades included in the Design, Arts and Crafts programme at this website.
