Tools a carpenter must have

Cross-cut saw
A cross-cut saw is used to chop materials. Its blade should be protected.

 

Drill
There are different types of drills. Small drills are used for assembly work. A machine drill is used to drill holes in the materials.

 

Plane
A plane is used to remove wood to make a smooth, straight surface. There are many types of hand-held planes.

 

Square
There are two types of squares. Carpenter’s squares are used to mark and check right angles. Combination squares are used to mark and measure pointed and blunt angles.

Hammer
Carpenters use a claw hammer. It has a flat surface for hammering nails in, and a claw for pulling nails out.

 

Spirit level
A spirit level is used for both vertical and horizontal adjustments.

 

Hand saw
A hand saw is used to divide – saw – wooden materials into suitable pieces. There are different types of saw blades. You must choose the saw blade that suits the material you are going to saw.

 

Axe
An axe is used to roughly shape wooden materials.

 

Knife
A knife is used to cut or whittle wood.

Folding rule
A folding rule is used to measure with. You should also have a measuring tape.

 

Crowbar
A crowbar is used to take materials apart, among other things. It can also be used when you need to fit something into place, for example when installing panelling.

 

Lead line
A string with a weight at one end is used to adjust the materials vertically.
