Motor vehicle mechanic, light vehicles (craft certificate)

As a motor vehicle mechanic for light vehicles, you will usually work at an auto repair shop.

Key tasks include:
•    servicing, troubleshooting, and repairs to passenger cars and lighter commercial trucks (utility vehicles)
•    repairs to mechanical and hydraulic components in vehicles
•    use of various electronic and mechanical test/diagnostic methods
•    dismounting and mounting of various vehicle auto body parts
•    repairs to the vehicle's electric and electronic systems

A motor vehicle mechanic for light vehicles should be able to work independently, methodically, and be efficient and meticulous. This vocation demands continual supplementary training and further education and training because of the rapid technological developments in the trade, so you should have good technical insight and be good at working with your hands. You should be able to communicate well with clients and colleagues.

 

Production operator (trade certificate)

Relevant workplaces are small and medium-sized industrial companies. A production operator should be able to start, stop, and operate an industrial production process. Key tasks include:

•    running production – including control checks and adjustments
•    implementation – as in organizing the starting and stopping
•    alterations, repairs, and maintenance
•    troubleshooting and error rectification of machine fittings and guidance systems

Industrial machinery mechanic (craft certificate)
As an industrial machinery mechanic, you may find employment in the chemical and mechanical industries, with oil companies, in shipbuilding, and wood processing.
Industrial mechanics fit machine parts.

Key tasks include:
•    understanding and interpreting drawings – especially assembly drawings
•    use of all kinds of hand tools for mounting and dismantling machine elements
•    use of heating and cooling during mounting and dismantling machine elements
•    use of tooling machines for the production and adaptation of machine elements
•    doing repair weldings
•    making electrical connections and disconnections during repairs and maintenance operations according to current regulations

You should be able to work independently and together with others. You should be meticulous and good at working with your hands.

 

Motorcycle repair mechanic (trade certificate)

Places of employment for a motorcycle repair technician can vary from smaller companies with one or two mechanics who do very comprehensive work within an ever-growing motorcycle fleet, to larger companies with many employees where more specialized work is carried out.

Key tasks include:
•    troubleshooting, service, and repair of motorcycles
•    mounting and dismantling mechanical and hydraulic functions
•    control checks and repairs to frames, gear drives, and wheels
•    doing complete motor overhauls
•    use of PC–s as a diagnostic tool
•    giving clients service and advice

Motorcycle repair mechanics should be able to work systematically, efficiently, meticulously and independently and also work well with others. They should be dexterous, good with their hands, and have good technical insight. They should also be service-oriented and have good communications skills. Customer service will often be a part of their daily routine.

Vehicle sprayer (craft certificate)

Places of employment are found at auto repair shops or paint shops.

Key tasks include:
•    repairs to minor damages and scratches
•    painting vehicles
•    use of technical equipment – such as sanders, polishers, and equipment used for choosing color
•    working with base layers, pre-treatment, choice of materials, and car surface care
•    use of cleaning methods
•    use of modern communications equipment for acquiring technical information regarding the work to be done

The vehicle sprayer must be able to work systematically, effectively and independently, and meticulously. You should be good with your hands, have a sense for aesthetics, be able to communicate with co-workers and clients, and give good service.

 

ICT service operator (trade certificate)

Potential workplaces involve the operation and maintenance of ICT systems in all kinds of enterprises, both public and private.

Key areas of work are the following:
•    the operation and maintenance of a company’s ICT systems
•    information security
•    ethics and personal protection
•    the installation, use and maintenance of software
•    counselling, guidance and training in the use of ICT systems
•    service and user support

You must be able to work accurately and systematically, both independently and together with others. Good communication skills and proficiency in written and oral Norwegian and English are important. You should also be able to handle confidential information in an ethically defensible manner. You should be imaginative, creative and have an interest in new technology.

Heavy equipment operator (trade certificate)

As a heavy equipment operator, you might find employment with a building or construction company. Heavy equipment operators drive, operate, and maintain different types of machines.

Key tasks include:
•    driving at least three types of machines, such as diggers, shovel-loaders, industrial dumpers, or bulldozers.
•    use of specialized equipment and safety gear
•    work alerts and work planning
•    levelling, and simple mark-out work
•    technical municipal work, water and sewage plants/works
•    ground works and roadway construction

Heavy equipment operators operate independently and in groups. This occupation requires a high degree of knowledge and proficiency in the field. It is important to have a positive attitude towards nature and the environment, and towards security and safety operations. You should be able to communicate well with clients and work systematically. You should be good with your hands and have an interest in machines.
